DATALAB Talk: Data Sonification
NB: This event has passed.
DATALAB hosts Talks on regular basis where researchers present their project, knowledge and results. This time, Dr. Bruce Walker from Georgia Tech (Georgia Institute of Technology) will give a presentation.
About Dr. Bruce Walker
Dr. Walker is the founder and director of the Georgia Tech Sonification Lab; an interdisciplinary research group based in the School of Psychology and the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Tech.
The Sonification Lab focuses on the development and evaluation of auditory and multimodal interfaces, and the cognitive, psychophysical and practical aspects of auditory displays, paying particular attention to sonification.
Special consideration is paid to Human Factors in the display of information in “complex task environments,” such as the human-computer interfaces in cockpits, cars, nuclear powerplants, in-vehicle infotainment displays, and in the space program. What you will learn
Besides giving a general introduction to the current state of the art in data sonification research, Dr. Walker will discuss how work in the lab is done across disciplines such as psychology, computing, HCI, music, engineering, and architecture, and how research projects involve collaborative efforts, often including empirical (lab) studies, software and hardware development, field studies, usability investigations, and focus group studies.
