Online disinformation has emerged as one of the most urgent political and democratic issues of recent times, but an effective solution is still not available and important aspects are still largely under-researched. It is becoming evident that a solution to the problem cannot be reached without breaking the boundaries between disciplines.

As the first of three international NOR-HS workshops on online disinformation, the conference Online disinformation: an integrated view will kick off the initial phase of such interdisciplinary collaboration by gathering top researchers from across the globe to present and discuss their research. As a part of the conference, a research center for disinformation research will officially be opened on Monday May 6th by DATALAB Director Anja Bechmann and Lisbeth Knudsen, editor-in-cheif of Mandag Morgen who are certified as fact-checkers by the Poynter Institute and part of The International Fact-Checking Network.

The EU Center for Research in Social Media and Information Disorder (EU REMID) will be hosted by DATALAB at Aarhus University and advance research into information flows on social media with a specific focus on different kinds of disorder e.g. disinformation, misinformation and hostility.

The center will be the official EU point of reference in Northern Europe for the H2020 funded European Disinformation Observatory - SOMA (Social Observatory for Disinformation and Social Media Analysis). SOMA supports experts in their work against disinformation providing them useful infrastructure and connection with a wide community of experts to collaborate in specific tasks.
